The transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) is an
alternative mean of producing echocardiograms of the heart. As opposed
to the standard echocardiogram, in which the transducer is placed over
the chest wall, the TEE transducer is passed into the esophagus( food
tube). Ultrasound waves examine heart size and function. The patient
is usually sedated during the procedure.
